Sightseeing Map

Located in center of the city, its closeness to all major transportation means and most sightseeing sites make Hotel Park Side an ideal spot for touring around Hiroshima.

The Two UNESCO World Heritage Sites The Atomic Bomb Dome at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and The Itsukushima Shrine in Miyajima

Atomic Bomb Dome Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum

The Atomic-Bomb (A-bomb) Dome was originally a building used for conferences and exhibitions of fine arts and industrial products.  After being shattered by the first atomic bomb ever used on Earth at the end of World War II, it became referred to as the Atomic-Bomb Dome and became the international symbol monument for peace and anti-nuclear weapons.  Among the very few buildings that maintained their shapes to some extent, it was the closest to the blast (directly above the nearby river and bridge).
Now, the dome, the adjacent park, and the river are a very beautiful scenic spot.  The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum is open from 8:30 to 17:00. It is only a 3-minute walk from Hotel Park Side.

The Big Torii of Miyajima Itsukushima Shrine

This is perhaps the most well-known shrine in the world.  People have seen in pictures and illustrations the beautiful, red 16m-high torii (wooden two-pillar gate) virtually floating on the sea (it is not fixed to the bottom of the sea); this is it.  The torii is the official entrance to the UNESCO World Heritage Itsukushima Shrine, which is constructed on water nearly 1400 years ago.  At the time of high tide, the shrine would be floating on the scenic Setonaikai Sea.  The island of Miyajima is known to be the holiest island in Japan, and great rulers have visited the shrine and the island for more than a millenium.  The island is also a location of famous battles.  There are many festivals yearlong, including the traditional imperial court music and dance festival, enchanting noh-dance, big firework festival, boat festival, etc.  Miyajima is beautiful throughout the year; cherry blossoms, summer fireworks, autumn crimson foliage, and snow all add to the magnificence of the island, known to be one of the top three scenic spots in Japan.  To go to Miyajima and Itsukushima Shrine from Hotel Park Side, simply take the on-ground Miyajima-line railway for 45 minutes, and then take a 10-minute ferry ride from Miyajima-guchi terminal.
